Special Movie Awards Committee with SMA 2017 intern’l winners from Sierra Leone visit to Ambassador Sulaiman Daramy
On the 5th of October 2017, Special Movie Awards Committee with winners from Sierra Leone of the recent held SMA 2017, Lamin Jalloh and Jamieu Sky Bakarr paid a courtesy call visit to the Sierra Leonean Ambassador to The Gambia. Ambassador Sulaiman Daramy gave words of encouragement that despite the lack of support in the movie industry, Film makers and Actors/Actresses should not relent and stay focus, he added that he will support in his own way at any given possible time. He commends The Special Movie Awards team to continue the good work in bridging the gap between film makers within the African Sub Regions. The Ambassador was presented a “PATRON” Award Certificate for SMA 2017. Below are few pictures:

Special Movie Awards second edition was a great success on the 30th of September 2017 at Djembe hotel Senegambia. The event was graced by Government officials, Film Makers, Actors and Actresses, Heads of institution, Private/ cooperate bodies and other sophisticated guests. The memorable night was filled glitz, glamour and paparazzi as it generated a fantastic exposure for movie makers in the Gambia and beyond. Out of 48 nominees, 16 lucky winners went home with beautiful SMA awards for the 16 different categories. His Excellency Adama Barrow, The President of the republic of The Gambia was awarded “Pillar of SMA 2017” and Desmond B. Finney a veteran Sierra Leonean actor received a Life Time Achievement Award. 6 Awards were also won for the international category out of 18 nominees. OFFICIAL NOMINEES FOR SPECIAL MOVIE AWARDS (SMA 2017)
We are pleased to inform you of the successful completion of movie screening by the Independent Jury. For this year’s Award 46 films were submitted by 30 film production houses in The Gambia, Nigeria and Sierraleone. Where in 31 films in total were submitted in The Gambia, 10 films from Sierraleone and 5 films from Nigeria. After a weeklong screening by the Jury, nominees for this year is out based on the films submitted. Special Movie Awards {SMA 2017}
Special Movie Awards SMA 2017 Second edition to be held on the 30th of September in The Gambia. We are pleased to inform you of the successful completion of submission for the SMA 2017 Awards. Submission closed on Monday 31st July and 46 films were submitted by 30 film production houses in The Gambia, Nigeria and Sierraleone. Where in 31 films in total were submitted in The Gambia, 10 films from Sierraleone and 5 films from Nigeria. Movie screening is on as the Jury retreat commenced on Wednesday August 2nd 2017. After a week long screening by the Jury, nominees will be released based on the films submitted. The Production Houses, Submissions and Categories are as follows:

SPECIAL MOVIE AWARDS (SMA 2017) CO-HOST MERCY ALEXANDER ARRIVES BANJUL, THE GAMBIA
On the 15th of July the (SMA) committee received Mercy Alexander the co-host for this year’s Special Movie Awards alongside Lt Col MS Adamu, Commander Nigerian Contingent Ecomig in The Gambia at the Banjul International Airport Yundum.
Special Movie Awards SMA 2017 that will hold on September 30th tentatively in a prestigious location here in The Gambia is an initiative geared towards the common good of film making and film makers in The Gambia as well as Actors and Actresses.
Special Movie Awards first edition was a great success as the event was graced by Ministers, Heads of Institutions, Members of diplomatic corps, Film Makers, Actors and Actresses, Traditional Rulers and Religious leaders. Over thirty Film makers in the Gambia participated and submitted thirty seven films which were screened by a panel of Independent Jury for nominations and awards. Fifteen Best Awards and Ten Honorary Awards was announced on the night of the event (Award night) last September 2016 at Coco Ocean Resort and Spa.
Our Special guest all the way from Nigeria, The Host of D’ Gallery TV Show, Mercy Alexander. She is the founder and host of D’ Gallery TV Show which is a 30 minutes motivational and inspirational television talk show aired every Saturday on the NTA and MITV UHF43, Channel 225 on DSTV, 94 on Gotv and 119 on startimes.
The program dwells on Interviews, Documentaries, Education, Politics, Entertainment event and culture related activities. The show is deliberately designed to concisely project individual lifetime achievements so as to deeply and permanently imprint their footprints in the sands on time.
We will like to specially thank His Excellency Adama Barrow the president of the republic of The Gambia and the ministry of Culture and tourism for supporting and endorsing this event.

Banjul My Love Movie Premier Press Release
The Premiere of the most talked about movie “Banjul My Love” went down successfully at the prestigious Coco Ocean Resort and Spa on Saturday 6th May 2017. The entire venue was jammed packed with people of different caliber dignitaries, actors and actresses, film makers etc. The opening statement was done by the Producer of Special Movie Awards 2016, Shiekh Tijan Sonko who recognized in his speech the presence of the Minister of Tourism and Culture Honourable Hamat Bah who ably represented The President of The Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency Adama Barrow. The Secretary General of P.D.O.I.S Honourable Halifa Sallah a National Assembly Member, Ambassador of Sierraleone Honourable Sulayman Daramy and his delegates from the embassy and Chief Executive Officer of The Gambia Chambers of Commerce and Industry Mr. Alieu Secka were all present for the premiere. The calendar for 2017 Special Movie Awards was unveiled by Honourable Hamat Bah who emphasized on the importance of the award and its relevance in the film industry of The Gambia. The unveiling of the calendar geared towards informing film makers of the road map for the awards this year. After the screening of the movie, both Hon. Halifa Sallah and Hon. Sulayman Daramy made positive comments about the movie and opt that the team continues the great work. The program ended around 11pm wherein The Executive Producer of Banjul My Love, Mr. Wilfred Adams called on stage the entire cast and crew of the movie. In his closing statement he thanked His Excellency President Adama Barrow and The Government of The Gambia and each and everyone who immensely contributed to the success of the event. He gave special thanks to his Co Producer Collins Archie Pearce for coming all the way from the United Kingdom to grace the occasion.

About The Sanxaanu Kaggoro Film Kaffo (SANXAAFI) – The Gambia.
The Sanxaanu Kaggoro Film Kaffo (SANXAAFI) is the first registered Gambian film organization to secure the membership of FEPACI currently based in Nairobi, Kenya. SANXAAFI is the parent body of the Gambia’s premiere international professional film festival called the CineKambiya International Film Festival (CIFF).

The maiden edition of CIFF took place between the 26 December 2015 and 03 January 2016 at the Global Hands Manduar Development Hub in Manduar village, West Coast Region. The second edition covered the 20 and 26 May 2016 with key innovative strands namely, rural screenings at the Alkawsara Community, Sami Karantaba Tenda, Central River Region; presentation of nominees for the Pan African Screen Awards (PASA); European Film Night and tribute to Papa Wemba held at the Alliance Française in Kanifing and, the launching of the roving global exhibition on the
“Third World in The Second World War” at the Rock Garden Apartments in Kerr Sering with The Gambia as the first African host. Parallel to film productions, the third edition of CineKambiya International Film Festival (CIFF) would take place during the course of 2017.
