Afrinity Productions hereby communicates to the public, nominees, partners, and invited guests that the Special Movie Awards (SMA) 2025 has been rescheduled. The event will now take place on Saturday, 28th June 2025, instead of the previously announced date of Saturday, 21st June 2025.
This adjustment has become necessary due to a modification in the venue booking at the West Africa Insurance Institute, Kotu South, The Gambia, which is beyond our control. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

President Barrow Leads by Example in Response to Ferry Incident: A Testament to Governance
In a remarkable display of leadership and dedication to the people’s welfare, President Adama Barrow took a proactive step by personally visiting the site of a stranded ferry incident to assess the situation firsthand.
The incident, which caused distress among passengers stranded on the river, prompted swift action from the Gambian government.
Accompanied by a team of officials and technical experts, President Barrow arrived unannounced at the scene to oversee the ongoing efforts to resolve the issue. Engaging directly with engineers and staff from The Gambia Ports Authority, he expressed genuine concern for the safety of Gambians and stressed the urgency of finding a solution.
During his visit, President Barrow reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the seamless operation of vital transportation services. The Gambia Senior Government Official in Senegal for border talk
Senior government officials are currently in Dakar, Senegal to meet the Senegalese authorities for border crisis talks, a government source has confirmed to The Point.
The delegation includes Dr. Mamadou Tangara, Foreign Affairs minister, Mohamed D.S. Jallow, the secretary general and the head of the Civil Service, Bai Lamin Jobe, minister of Works, Lamin Jobe Minister of Trade and Yankuba Sonko, minister of Interior.
It could be recalled that recently a Gambia Transport Service Corporation (GTSC) bus was refused entry from Senegal at the Karang border. Also, few weeks earlier, another Gambian bus was attacked leading to injuries of some passengers who had to return to Gambian territory.
Meanwhile, The Gambia Transport Union (GTU) at a press conference last week threatened to impose a ban on all Senegalese commercial vehicles in retaliation for the twin incidents.
The president of the GTU was quoted as saying βEffective 19 February no Senegalese commercial vehicle will be allowed to enter The Gambia. And we do not care whether the vehicle is on transit or not. All we are doing is to also protect our interest as a country. So the transport union in partnership with the drivers and vehicle owners starting from Wednesday 19 February 2020 will put stop to all Senegalese commercial vehicles entering the Gambia.β
However, before any action, the government asked them to halt implementing their decision as they were sending a delegation to Senegal for the border crisis talk.

Gunjur-Berending scuffle, murder suspect arrested
Police have arrested Buba Drammeh who is accused of killing Buba Jammeh, a former staff of Brikama Area Council (BAC) during a communal land dispute between the people of Gunjur and Berending in March 2019.
Police spokesperson, ASP Lamin Njie, confirmed the development on the police Facebook page. ASP Njie says the suspect is currently under custody helping investigators on their investigation.
The suspect, he went on, was arrested by personnel of the Anti-Crime Unit of The Gambia Police Force.
βBuba Drammeh is arrested in connection with the Gunjur-Berending shooting incident which led to the death of Mr. Jammeh.β
The office of the IGP, he added, wishes to commend efforts of members of the public for providing vital information leading to the suspectβs arrest.
βThe public will be duly informed about the outcome of investigations and individuals with relevant information about the incident are encouraged to come forward to assist with investigations.β
