Saudia Arabia to partially soothe coronavirus lockdown this weekend

This weekend, Saudia Arabia will take an important step towards soothing its coronavirus-incited lockdown. Not only will mosques soon open on a restricted basis, but its public sector employees will also resume to work.

Saudi public sector employees will start resuming to work moderately as of Sunday, May 31, after more than two months of deferment amid strict measures to help tackle the novel coronavirus escalation.

Public sector workers will eventually return work as normal as of June 14, Minister of Human Resources Ahmed al-Rajhi said in a televised speech on Tuesday.

On March 16, Saudi Arabia postponed work in all government sectors leaving out only health and security as part of the efforts to contain the pandemic.

The government said on Monday that it would begin alleviating limitations on movement and travel this week.

Limitations will be put forward in three phases, peaking in the curfew completely ending from June 21, except for the holy city of Mecca, the state news agency confirmed.

Saudi Arabia will also allow mosques to open for Friday prayers, state TV confirmed on Tuesday, as the kingdom eases limitations on movement to tackle the escalation of the coronavirus.
